About Code Hobbyist

Code Hobbyist is a place where first and foremost coding is meant to be fun.  There are plenty sites out there that teach people how to code with the goal of making lots of money as a programmer.  But what if you don't want a career as a programmer?  What if you're happy with your career, but you still like to code?  What if your day job is a writing code, but you have your own fun personal projects that you like to work on?

Coding can be a fun hobby.  Just like cooking or music or sports or any other hobby you do just because you enjoy it.  This is place for coding as a hobby.  For code hobbyists.

How might coding as a hobby look different than coding as a job?

As a job, you're likely working on a product that will be used by thousands or millions of people.  As a hobby, maybe only a few people will use it.  Maybe only you!

As a job, you're likely working on code as a part of team, with other people.  As a hobby, you're the only one who's going to see your code.

As a job, you're trying to create something that earns money.  As a hobby, you're trying to create something fun!

All of these differences change the way you write and think about code.  Let's not treat every project and every question like its a job.

There are a few general standards that should help to make this a fun community to be a part of.

  1. Be encouraging

  2. Be proud

  3. Be imperfect

  4. Have fun
